Operator Privacy Notice
For bodaboda riders and taxi drivers · Data Protection Act, 2019 (Kenya) · Last updated: 10/10/2026
1. Who this notice is for
This notice is for bodaboda riders and taxi drivers (operators) who register on Maya Boda. It explains what personal data we collect from you, what is shown to clients and the public, and how we protect the rest. It works together with our main Privacy Policy, which applies to everyone. Arahiks Technologies (Maai Mahiu, Nakuru County, Kenya) is the data controller under the Data Protection Act, 2019 (Kenya).
2. Data we collect when you register
During operator onboarding we collect: your full name, phone number, M-Pesa payout number, national ID number, driving licence number, vehicle registration plate, vehicle make/model and photo, a profile photo of you, your service area, years of experience and an optional bio.
Why: identity and vehicle verification (client safety), matching you with nearby clients, paying out your earnings via M-Pesa, and meeting legal obligations.
3. What clients and the public can see
Once your account is approved, clients browsing Maya Boda can see your first name or full name, profile photo, vehicle type, vehicle make/model, registration plate, service area, bio, years of experience, average rating and review count. Your contact options (call/WhatsApp) are shown only in masked or trip-scoped form where possible.
Never shown publicly: your national ID number, driving licence number, M-Pesa payout number and earnings. These are restricted to you and authorised administrators only, enforced by database row- and column-level security.
4. Live location while you are online
When you switch your status to online/available, your approximate position appears as a vehicle pin on the client map so nearby clients can find and choose you. When you accept a trip, your live GPS position is shared with that client until the trip ends. Your location stops being broadcast the moment you go offline or the trip is completed or cancelled. Trip location history is retained for trip records, safety investigations and dispute resolution.
5. Earnings, fares and the service fee
We record each trip's fare, the 15% platform service fee and your payout amount so you can see an accurate earnings history and request withdrawals. These financial records are visible only to you and authorised administrators, and are retained for up to seven years as required by Kenyan tax and accounting law.
6. Verification data
Your national ID, licence and vehicle details are used solely to verify that you are legally allowed to operate. Verification decisions (pending, approved, rejected) are recorded against your account. Only you and authorised administrators can see these documents; they are never displayed to clients.
7. Who we share your data with
We share only what is necessary with: the clients matched to you (name, photo, vehicle, plate, live location during a trip), Safaricom M-Pesa (Daraja) for payouts, SMS/email providers for notifications, mapping providers for routing, and our hosting/database providers. We never sell operator data.
8. Your choices and rights
You can go offline at any time to stop location broadcasting. You can update your photo, bio, service area and vehicle details from your dashboard. Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you may request access, correction, deletion or a copy of your data by emailing support@mayaboda.app — we respond within 30 days. You may also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (www.odpc.go.ke). Deleting your account removes your public operator profile; limited financial records may be retained where the law requires.
